September 3, 2026Where Ecommerce LCP Actually Goes Wrong

Hero image delivery, render-blocking apps and font strategy: the three issues behind most failing category templates.
The largest contentful paint element on most ecommerce templates is a hero image or the first product image in the grid — and it is usually served at the wrong size, in the wrong format, with no priority hint, behind a render-blocking script. Fixing image delivery alone typically accounts for the majority of the achievable LCP improvement.

The remaining gap is almost always third-party scripts and font loading: apps injecting synchronous tags into the head, and web fonts blocking text render instead of using font-display swap with a matched fallback. Neither fix is exotic — both just require someone to actually audit the template rather than guess.
