Platform Selection
September 3, 2026Choosing Between Shopify, BigCommerce and WooCommerce

A decision framework based on catalog complexity, B2B pricing needs, content strategy and internal team capability.
Shopify wins when speed to market and a hosted checkout matter more than deep customization — most DTC and subscription brands land here. BigCommerce earns its place when native customer groups, price lists and complex option sets are needed without stacking apps, which shows up most often in wholesale and large-catalog retail. WooCommerce fits when content and commerce genuinely need to live in one CMS, or when a business rule requires code-level control a SaaS platform will not expose.

The framework we use in practice: map the catalog (variant depth, bundling, B2B rules) before touching design, price out the realistic app stack for each platform rather than the base subscription cost, and weight internal team capability — a platform your team cannot operate confidently after handover is the wrong choice regardless of its feature list.
